Last week, we proudly launched our new Public Service Obligation (PSO) route between Wick John O’Groats and Glasgow Airport, marking the start of an exciting new era for regional connectivity in Scotland.
This new, enhanced service adds three weekly return flights between Caithness and the Central Belt, helping to connect communities, businesses and families across the North Highlands with Scotland’s largest city.
A Ceremonial Welcome to Glasgow
The inaugural Wick–Glasgow flight on August 17th 2026 touched down at Glasgow Airport to a traditional water salute; arcs of water sprayed over the aircraft by the airport fire service as it arrived on stand. This time-honoured ceremony is used to mark inaugural flights, retirements and other special aviation milestones, and gave our first Glasgow service the send-off it deserved.
About the New Route
The Wick–Glasgow service forms part of an enhanced PSO network running from 15 August 2026 to 14 August 2027, alongside the existing weekly return service between Wick and Aberdeen. The routes are operated by Air Charter Scotland in partnership with AIS Airlines, flying an 18-seat BAe Jetstream 32 aircraft, following a competitive tender process led by The Highland Council with support from Transport Scotland, HIAL and regional stakeholders.
The new Glasgow link opens up direct access to Scotland’s Central Belt for the first time in years, creating new opportunities for business, healthcare, tourism and economic growth across Caithness and the wider North Highlands.
