Air Charter Scotland Secures Year-Round Wick PSO Route

7 August 2026

Air Charter Scotland is delighted to welcome the Scottish Government’s continued investment in Public Service Obligation (PSO) air services from Wick John O’Groats Airport, securing a full year of essential regional connectivity with Aberdeen, while introducing a new service between Wick and Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city – and Air Charter Scotland’s home.

Tickets go on sale next week for an enhanced network that includes weekly return services between Wick and Aberdeen and three weekly return services between Wick and Glasgow, covering the period 15 August 2026 to 14 August 2027.

Following a competitive tender process led by The Highland Council, Air Charter Scotland was successful in retaining the contract first awarded in January this year.  It will continue to work with AIS Airlines as operating partner with their 18-seat BAe Jetstream 32 aircraft.

The enhanced contract reflects the collaborative efforts of Transport Scotland, The Highland Council, Air Charter Scotland, AIS Airlines, HIAL and regional stakeholders, all working together to deliver sustainable, dependable air connectivity.

The new Glasgow service addresses a long-standing demand from the local community and provides new opportunities for business, healthcare, tourism and economic growth, according to The Highland Council.

Derek Thomson, COO, Air Charter Scotland commented:

“Since taking over the service in January, our focus has been simple.  Deliver a reliable operation, provide exceptional customer service and build trust within the communities.  The continued confidence shown by The Highland Council and Scottish Government is something we’re very proud of and it reflects the dedication of our entire team and our strong partnership with AIS Airlines.”

The introduction of Wick–Glasgow is particularly exciting. It will provide even greater opportunities for residents and businesses across the North Highlands; improved access to Scotland’s Central Belt, while maintaining the essential Aberdeen service that supports onward domestic and international travel.”

1,800 passengers carried on Wick-Aberdeen since January

Since taking over the Wick–Aberdeen service in January 2026, initially with a King Air 200, Air Charter Scotland has flown approximately 1,800 passengers. The Wick PSO has delivered a stable and reliable service that has rebuilt passenger confidence, following a challenging period for regional aviation.

Its service connects patients with healthcare appointments, businesses with customers and supply chains; students with educational opportunities and families with loved ones, while supporting tourism, inward investment and the wider regional economy.

“Now Air Charter Scotland has become established serving scheduled service operations its future focus will be on determining future aircraft types.  We are already starting to talk with regional aircraft lessors and OEMs with vigour. In the meantime, we continue to listen to customer feedback, delivering the high standards of reliability, professionalism and customer care that passengers have come to expect,” concluded Derek Thomson.

THE FUTURE OF BUSINESS AIR TRAVEL WITH AIR CHARTER SCOTLAND

23 March 2023

2023 is shaping up to be a big year for business travel. Flying by private jet charter is an increasingly attractive option for companies and corporations returning to travelling for business.

The past few years have been challenging for the aviation sector, which in turn, across the industry there has been a significant decline in business travel. However, the private aviation sector is poised for a comeback bigger and better than ever.

According to the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), almost nine in ten suppliers (86%) expect that spending by corporate customers in 2023 will be much higher (26%) or somewhat higher (60%) compared to 2022.

Air Charter Scotland has built a reputation as one of the most reliable private jet operators in the UK and is the preferred private jet operator for some of the world’s largest businesses. We are committed to doing everything possible to exceed all expectations.

1. Enhanced Safety

Safety considerations are driving many individuals and companies to look to private aviation for their business travel requirements. At Air Charter Scotland, we’re committed to doing everything possible to exceed all expectations for your clients.

We pride ourselves on our safety record, managing a fleet of business jets with bases in Glasgow, London Luton and Malta. We have a dedicated and experienced team operating under the strictest of regulations overseen by the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority, Transport Malta and the European Aviation Safety Agency. As an operator of public transport flights, we meet the same safety standards as Europe’s largest airlines, and we strive to better them.

2. Flexibility for even the most complex schedule

Of course, safety considerations are just one factor that is driving the return of business travel for the private aviation sector. Many business travellers are also looking for the convenience and flexibility that private aviation provides when it comes to scheduling and routing.

With Air Charter Scotland, our dedicated team will tailor private flights around even the busiest of schedules to ensure your clients get where they need to be when they need to be there.

3. Privacy

Travelling by private jet is a seamless process and offers a level of discretion and security that is unattainable on commercial airlines.

With Air Charter Scotland, your clients can enjoy the privacy and security of arriving at convenient FBOs as well as luxury lounges so they can prepare for their departure. Our FBOs provide VIP facilities with luxury lounges that boast the latest in technology for entertainment and communications. With a smooth transition from car, to lounge to aircraft, we put convenience and privacy at the forefront of the journey.

4. Business can continue with no distractions

Distractions and the lack of privacy on a commercial flight can become a real challenge when trying to continue with business in the air. Air Charter Scotland operate a variety of corporate jets on our two worldwide (UK and EU) AOCs – from business trip ready light jets ideal for three-hour bi-leisure trips to long range aircraft ideal for routes to New York or the Middle East.

5. Sustainability

Like others in the private aviation industry, we have placed sustainability at the core of our business. We made the decision to offset all of our flights, meaning our flying is now helping to support a hydro power water project located on the Du River in Hubei Province in China and also supporting our private jet clientele to reduce their carbon emissions.

We are working with leading climate consultancy and project developer South Pole and we continue to progress towards a sustainable business future by investing in programs to address their operations’ emission, while channelling critical finance to climate action projects that reduce CO₂ from the atmosphere.

To further limit their environmental impact, Air Charter Scotland continues exploring additional Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) procurement opportunities worldwide and monitoring the development in this area. Produced from sustainable resources like waste oils and agricultural residues, the use of SAF in its neat form can result in a carbon emission reduction of up to 85% compared to conventional jet fuel.

A business partner you can rely on

All of these factors and more are contributing to a renewed interest in private aviation for business travel. We understand that timings, logistics and sustainability are essential for business travel and our team can manage every detail for your flights and requests.
